Congratulations and I'm sorry! Yes, they do conflict. You are reading this because you have had a loss and are concerned about how your insurance company will treat you (I'm sorry). The positive aspect is you are attempting to educate yourself and are taking a pro-active approach to your financial loss (congratulations), and yes it is a financial loss. The proper assessment of your damages compared with the insurance policy coverage will determine if you come out "even" or in the negative.

In January 2010 the Office of Program Policy Analysis & Government Accountability (an office in the Florida Legislature) published a report (No. 10-06)  discussing Citizens Property Insurance Corporation. Their investigation revealed policyholder's with public adjuster representation typically received higher settlements than those without public adjusters.  Policyholders with public adjusters received more for catastrophe related claims as well as non-catastrophe claims. It went on to state that "for non-catastrophe claims, policyholders who used public adjusters received an estimated $9,379.00 on their claim, compared to $1,391.00 for those policyholders that did not use a public adjuster."  This is a huge margin (almost $8,000.00) for a relatively small typical claim. What will be the margin with your claim? Whether you have Citizens or another insurance carrier, there will be a difference. Will you know what you should receive compared to what your insurance company says you should receive?

Your insurance policy includes conditions for coverage and exclusions of coverage. Your policy includes specific procedures of documentation and time lines required by your insurance company. Additionally, there are laws, statutes, building codes to be considered. These are things that an experienced public insurance adjuster will be equipped to handle. A public adjuster will work on your behalf handling the countless meetings, e-mails, phone calls and paperwork that flow for processing a claim. Your insurance company adjuster may not have the time or experience to determine everything you are entitled to. A public adjuster will represent your best interest. It is not in a policyholders best interest to allow the insurance company to determine the damages using their business guidelines or practices.
